Most seniors at Northfield are currently knee deep in their college applications and the process of applying to their dream universities. Whether it be brag sheets, teacher recommendations, or endless google forms, we know it will eventually come to a halt. But what about right now? How do kids feel during the three month period that essentially defines our future?

Right now, according to the Future Center Schoology timeline for seniors, students should have already researched colleges, taken the SAT, started on brag sheets, requested teacher recommendations, and made progress on personal and supplemental essays.

I asked five high school students at Northfield to describe how they are feeling right now in terms of the big scary word: college. Most adjectives I received were, ‘horrible’, ‘stressed’, ‘mid’ and ‘okay…I guess’. This easily highlights the fact that the college application process is not a simple walk in the park for everyone. On top of this, each student is balancing their fair share of basic school work in addition to carrying the weight of sending in all of their academic and personal information to multiple colleges.

So, if you're wondering how Northfield's 12th graders are feeling at the moment, this might give you some insight. It also puts into perspective for teachers and parents how resilient your seniors are as they begin to navigate what their life will look like after June when they’ve officially ended their high school career.
