The Northfield Nighthawks are scorching as they head into a homecoming match-up with Heritage this Thursday. The Nighthawks are undefeated through five games and are in the midst of possibly their best season ever.
Last Friday, the Nighthawks went to Grandview to spoil the homecoming of the Maxpreps’ third ranked team in the state. In a defensive battle, Northfield running back King Ingram was able to find the end zone for a game-deciding fourth quarter touchdown. Northfield sealed the game on a perfectly executed fake punt. Offensively, the Nighthawks were led by junior DJ Lewis, who hauled in 107 receiving yards, and senior Kaeden Williams, who finished the game with 64 yards from scrimmage. On the season, Williams leads the way with 653 rushing yards on top of 136 receiving yards. The offense is commanded by sophomore quarterback AJ Jones, who has thrown for 507 yards and 7 touchdowns on the year.
The Nighthawks’ schedule is not easing up, and the team will look to ride this momentum into their homecoming game at All City Stadium on October 1. After homecoming, Northfield will head to Cherry Creek for a highly-anticipated contest with the reigning state champs.
